What is Texture?

Happy Friday everyone!!! Today couldn’t get here fast enough.  The week was dragging and cold.  To keep my cool, I joined Addicted to CAS Challenge this week.  Their code word is Texture. How interesting!!  How often do you get a card with texture on it.  Think about it.

So, the question is what is texture?

According to Webster, texture is the visual and especially tactile quality of a surface.  For example a rough texture.

Well that is interesting, who wants a card with a rough texture.  When you think of cards, you think pretty, smooth, subtle, funny, and bright.  So how does texture play apart on a greeting card.

I will show you, take a look at the card I came up with.

Life

Can you say texture?  Yes, you can!! Guess what, it is rough!!!  It’s a pretty rough card!!

Life side

You can see the thickness of this textured butterfly.

Life close up

I saw Laura Bassen create a card like this and I wanted to give it a try.

1. I die cut 4 butterflies from Papertrey Ink’s Life is Beautiful die cut to create a butterfly stencil.

2. I attached the stencil to my white cardstock.

3.  I mixed two distress inks colors with embossing paste.

4. I spread a thick coat of the color embossing paste over my heart stencil.

5. Once I was done applying the paste, I lifted the butterfly stencil and WALA!!

Have you notice that one of my butterfly antenna’s are missing.  I think that is the beauty of this card and that is why I use the sentiment “Life”!  Life isn’t perfect and sometimes neither are we.

I hope you like my card just as much as I like it.

My World Is Brighter Because Of You

For today’s card, I’m using my new favorite DSP by Stampin’ Up!  It’s called Kaleidoscope DSP! I love this paper.  Its so vibrant and full of shapes and patterns.  I added a piece of ribbon and a cute button for dimension.  I rounded the corners to bring everything together.  I think it came out fabulous!

My World is Brighter Because of YOu

This card was quite easy to make.

1. The card stock measure 4-1/4 x 11 scored at 5-1/2.

2. The DSP was cut at 4-1/4 x 3-1/4.

3.  The Strawberry Slush CS measures 4-14 x 1/2.

4. I adhered the DSP to the bottom of the Neenah Solar White CS.

5. I then adhered the Strawberry Slush to to the top of the DSP.

6. I cut the Bermuda Bay triangle using the triangle punch. I also cut a 7 inch piece of basic black ribbon (retired).

7. I adhered the triangle down, then the ribbon, then the silver button that was threaded with whisper white bakers twine.

8.  I stamped the Mama Elephant Bling sentiment using the Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

9.  I rounded all of the corners.

Easy-Pesy!!

Clean & Simple 3 Card Class – Day 2 Faux Letterpress

I’m so excited about my new card.  I had so much fun creating this card, I can’t stop smiling.

Faux Letterpress is another technique that I learned in my online card class.  Shari Carroll taught us how to create this fabulous look of  letterpress without the texture.  I used nothing but ink and it gave this faux letterpress technique a perfectly smooth one layer card.  I love it!!

Freshly Made Sketches 126 – Hello

Today’s card was made for a sketch challenge that I’m participating in.  Last Monday I started a new online class all about color.  I am re-learning all about colors, the color wheel, complementary colors and analogous colors.  My first assignment was to pick a color scheme that I want to work with, then find everything in my craft stash that matches that color scheme.

Take a look at my color scheme:

Kymona's Color Scheme

These colors are so pretty.  I had to make a card for this sketch using this color scheme.  I had so much fun creating this card.  Knowing the color scheme before hand made this an easy card to make.  There was no battle on which colors from my stash to use.

Here’s the sketch:
